Cooking Around the World - June 25-29, 2018 - Ages 7 - teen - 9:00-11:30 am.

Taste delicious cuisine from around the world without ever buying a plane ticket. Homemade noodles from Italy, to Guava pastries from Cuba, young chefs will experience a wide variety of tasty treats and learn where these countries are on the map. Click on the menu tab above for a detail of each days country and cuisine.

Cooking classes are hands on and price includes all food, recipes and supplies. Participants will also learn kitchen safety, proper food handling and preparation, cooking and baking techniques. Aprons will be provided, and a souvenir chef hat. 

Students will have closely supervised hands on experience and are encouraged to ask questions and offer their ideas and suggestions.

 Classes run for 2 ½ hours for 5 consecutive days. Each class will prepare adequate quantities of each recipe to allow for student meals at the end of the class and take-home samples to share with family and friends. 

Students will be standing, cooking and working most of the class. It is encouraged that students wear comfortable clothes, closed toe shoes and long hair pulled back.

Instructor - Laura Hester


 

 

Laura Hester is the owner of Red Gingham Gourmet, a local company that produces fresh baked bread. Her Jalapeno and Classic cornbread muffins are sold in the frozen bread section of grocery stores throughout the southeast. Laura has been baking at the Culinary Center since 2005 and has also prepared Wednesday evening meals at her local congregation for several years. Mother of two sons and grandmother (GiGi) to a beautiful granddaughter; Laura loves cooking, baking and experimenting with new recipes.

Laura is a Healthy Hands Certified Instructor. She has completed the requirements to become a Certified Instructor, which includes, background check, Servesafe certification, working with food allergies, and tested on advanced kitchen and safety skills.

Cancellation and refunds are allowed up to one week from the first day of class. 

1. Model release form will need to be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian on the first day of class. If you do not wish to have your child's photo posted on Red Gingham Gourmet's website or social media accounts, that will be respected. We would love to email or text parents pictures of their children taken during the classes. 

2. Student/Parent agreement will need to be signed on first day of class.

NOTE: Forms are available to be emailed to parent or guardian, prior to the first class, to be filled out and signed by parent or guardian and brought with student on the first day.

Shoals Kids Cooking Club recipes are developed using common cooking and baking ingredients that may or may not be specified in the menu titles, including various fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, wheat flours, etc. If your child has a food allergy, please contact Laura Hester (redginghamgourmet@gmail.com 256-810-2655) before attending the class.
